On Monday, ARY News anchor Ashfaque Satti was suspended after his wife, Nomaika, accused him of domestic violence. Nomaika, a former journalist herself, filed a complaint with the Karachi police, leading to an FIR against Satti on charges that include assault and issuing threats.
Wife Accuses Satti of Assault, Attempted Suffocation, and Threats
According to Nomaika, Satti attacked her, attempted to suffocate her, and even took their 1-year-old son from her. She recounted to another journalist the violent incident that took place on January 22, describing being dragged across the floor by her hair and threatened with death. She reported that Satti said, “I’ll kill you and make your body disappear” and “Today you will die by my hand.”
In response to these allegations, ARY News swiftly issued a statement on social media: “The ARY Management has taken serious notice of the domestic violence allegations involving anchorperson Ashfaq Satti. He is hereby suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of legal proceedings. ARY has a zero-tolerance policy on violence or threats, whether in the workplace or at home.”
