Rescue 1122 personnel from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who were detained during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) D-Chowk protest in Islamabad, were warmly received upon their release from Attock jail. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur greeted the 42 freed rescuers with rose petals in Peshawar on Friday and announced their promotion.
The personnel, including firefighters, drivers, and medical technicians, were arrested by federal and Punjab police in early October alongside 86 others during PTI’s anti-government protest. Following their release, they were invited to the Chief Minister’s house, where Gandapur praised their dedication.
Director General Rescue 1122 Muhammad Ayaz Khan expressed gratitude, highlighting that Gandapur promised a one-step promotion, a one-month extra salary, increased allowances, and a retirement age extension from 50 to 60 years.
While most personnel are now free, six members of Rescue 1122 reportedly remain imprisoned. During the protest crackdown, over 10 KP police officers and 40 Rescue 1122 staff were arrested by Punjab police, with several Rescue 1122 and local government vehicles also impounded as authorities took strong measures to curb the rally.
